The United States has a unique tool to fight fraud to recover billions of dollars. Each year, United States taxpayers suffer when fraudsters defraud the government. The US has whistleblower laws which recover billions of dollars per year. In 2022, over $ 5 billion was recovered. And Tthe US Federal False Claims Act Law and related whistleblower programs reward whistleblowers for their role in fighting fraud by providing significant compensation.
How does it work?
Defrauding the US government is serious stuff. If you have knowledge of fraud, an attorney in the US will write a “complaint” detailing the information you provide relating to the fraud. Whistleblowers can receive between 15-25% of the money recovered in such cases. The law also allows for “treble” damages; for example a 30 million dollar case is “trebled” to 90 million dollars.
